The BluEconomy Initiative was initiated by Nicholas Kouwenhoven of The Netherlands. He became a PADI certified diver in 1992 and explored the underwater world at the Dutch Caribbean islands Curacao and Bonaire. 'To me it was like a small step, but giant leap in a remarkable different world. A world with beautiful species of Flora and Fauna and which seemed vulnarable and needed human attention and protection.'
In that period Nicholas worked more than a decade as senior spokesman/project manager for the Royal House of Orange of The Netherlands and served HM Queen Beatrix and HRH The Prince of Orange Willem-Alexander and had the privilege to travel frequently and meet all kind of wildlife and marine (protection) organisations.
After this period he worked in Parliament as director of Communications for Mark Rutte, the actual Prime Minister for more than twelve years, served as spokesman for the State secretary of Finance and went to Suriname to advise the campaign team of Chan Santokhi, who became President. Nicholas started his own Public Relations & Public Affairs 'NK Strategies' agency in 2011 but felt that he could do móre to support the 'blue world' by helping governments, like in the Dutch Caribbean by making the right choices and bringing solutions for problems by turning waste into energy, for example, by innovative solutions via solid innovators and a good finance plan. 'Such pragmatic approach is the only way to reach change in governments policies when you can create a real Win-Win situation.'
This will only work with the right strategic partners who understand thoroughly the problems and can help with finding solutions to create a better environment. These partners come from The Netherlands, the Dutch Caribbean and other parts of the World. But we all feel connected in helping to make The BluEconomy Initiative a succes in as many regions as possible. Therefor our role is of great importance to act as a trustworthy partner for both government and executing consortia of developing, construction and financing organisations.
